Competitors and Mentors

Last Thursday we immersed into the world of art galleries by visiting Mercedes Helnwein exhibition in Wanted Gallery,Notting Hill

We admired exquisite drawings by this amazing young artist ad mixed with other creative people.

We have made acquaintance with the director of A Gallery, who shared his experience as a curator of this “pearl” of a place.

Also a courtesy of our “mystery” Artist in Residence another competitor :

New Enterprise

Today we became part of Young Enterprise. We are in!

So many questions ant so much excitement.

Bracey Parish is a good name and he was kind enough to open the doors, which his colleague was going to keep secret…:)

I made notes of the names of the people in the Council I can contact – it is very important.

Overall – interesting experience.

Target Market/Property

We have started a research on our competitors and potential clients. In fact all stakeholders.

The Squatting Group Oubiliette are a collective of artist living in empty properties in Central London.

They create in the space they occupy and also have lessons and social gatherings.

The film below is an insight into their life.

Local Hero

Yesterday we established the Theme of our first Exhibition.

It is quite controversial as some people see it as cliche and perhaps find it boring due to the amount of press about soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan.

We would like to prove otherwise – that it is a lively and very emotional topic and can be interpreted in many ways.

Also, today I have discussed this Theme with an artist and was told that it might be too limiting. So it is going to be open for a discussion tomorrow.

We have chosen the name of the company, but that is going to be discussed further.

We have contacted out potential “gallery space”, one of retail stores that is currently empty.

We are very eager to hear from them.

Prototyping The Flow- Meeting 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJPUjhX4rq0&feature=player_embedded

1                      2

We are still in the process of researching the information. But we did achieve some great ideas in this meeting. And we all felt that everything goes on well. The concept of our business is promoting Young Artist and use of Recycling materials. That means we need to make something and exhibit. The concept of recycling is our feeder, but not the main function.

We have decided to chose 5 artists for each of us. So that we can work with them and communicate with them in the process. We haven’t decided whether we will supply the materials or not. If we concentrate on making recycling material and the process, it might be very time and money consuming. Because we think that designers might know more clear about the materials they use. But it is open for us as an option. We don’t want to constraint the artist. We want to let them open their mind, be as creative as possible.

The other big issue in the meeting is we are working on the Theme of the show- it is important, because we are giving the artist a task. We will finailly choose one theme, for example, Saving the Earth, Globing Warming, Wildabout…… We want our artists design prodects around the theme using recycled materials. That would defenitely be an interesting and attracting exhibition. For the intention of  our Yong Business, we intend to promote potential young artists presenting their work and using recycled materials to advance awareness of public.
For the next week, we will present our plan to the artists. And we will decide the final theme to make more detail. After all, we are all so happy with this meeting.

3 Personas’ video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aL2VWOrCaE

How to choose wine

We filmed the video for the 3 personas in a supermarker.  We act in the video and asked customers about the reason they bought the wine.

We concluded 3 typical personas in a way how people buy wine in their own point of view. And we will apply these features from customers to our business.

The first  is people buy anything with an good offer.

The second is people buy something because it has special meaning.

The third is people buy something according to the special occasion.

Meeting 3

This wednesday, we hold our third business meeting. Though we are all vey busy and have different schedules, but we still spare our time for the meeting. And this time, the result is quite good. Now we are clear about what we gonna do and what we want to get in the future.

IMG_0020    IMG_0024          IMG_0018

IMG_0019

Our idea is to explore new designers and promote their artwork made from recycled materials we provided in our  ” exbition or gallery”.  But their is some problem in this meeting. One side is to support finding the artists first, then ask them what kind of material he can use to do the finished product. The other side is opposite,  the reason for searching materials first is for there are hundreds of hundreds of materials existing in the earth. We should confirm only some of them or that will waste our time.

Andrea brought forward a new structure called Critical Path:

Actually, after discussing we are supposed to blend them together, which bring out everone’s task for this activity.  Moneisa and Yang will find 5 young artists engaged in furniture, accessories, etc. They need to contact and socialize with people or univerdity.  Andrea are responsible for researching the recycled materials.  Khrystyna will contact with property companies.

For our next meeting, we will see the presentation of our research results.  We will choose the suitable materials and artists and combine them together for the futher action.

Meeting 2

Summarizing our second Meeting

Finally welcomed our real and complete meeting, In the first one,  Andrea was absent, but this time she’s back and brought new ideas which are bringing the new model in for the structure of the business.

Khrystyna & Andrea Khrystyna & Yang

Inspired by this,we are back to the original idea of Exhibiting and promoting the Young Artists.

The following words are what Khrystyna praised Andrea:
I was quite mesmerized though how you turned around my idea that I told you when I first spoke to you and then presented it as your own with slight  alterations.

I think most of the team numbers are pleased with the whole new concept, though we still have a long way to go. In short: we are going to provide materials for the artists  and they will produce work, which we will exhibit in our “showroom” or gallery.

This work of art or furniture, as Andrea suggested, can be bought by customers who could not afford it before.

Khrystyna’s  first Idea was to approach shopkeepers/property owners whose property is now empty (due to recession) and offer them a great chance to support the Young artist project.

Now our main tasks are:
To find property
To research the recycling products
To oversee the organic idea of the business ( without plagiarism or prejudice) according to Andrea’s proposal.

Tasks for every team number:

Rong - start research on recycling materials.
Moneisa – contacts with art students willing to participate
Sujeevan- film and image also advertising.
Andrea -  elaborate further on the organic structure and contracts with suppliers and artists. Writing a detailedmodel of the structure of the new comany.                                                                                                                         Khrystyna - take responsibility of finding the property and liaise with the key stakeholders.

We know that we are still in the first step researching and analysing. Maybe we haven’t got clear and specific target, but we are trying to get closer to the final goal as long as we treat this business seriously and collaborate well.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
Our next meeting is Wednesday at 10am in Penryhn Road Campus.
